Our Story & How The Pandemic Changed our STORY!

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mindy (Hubbard) Worsley the Owner and Founder of SoCal Threads...our behind the brand story from how we started and where we are now after a year of the pandemic.

Mindy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?

Hi, my name is Mindy, I am the owner of SoCal Threads Boutique. We are a small family owned boutique established 2017 just outside of Los Angeles, California. I am a wife, and mom of three kids (Jacob 16, Haley 14 and Braden 9). I have always had a love of fashion and dreamed of owning my own business. As a mom we sometimes lose our identity in motherhood, I loved finding ways to connect with other moms and be creative. I made hair bows, tutus, and licensed a preschool when my kids were preschool aged. I am a person that needs to be doing something, I don't know how to just sit and relax.

Finding clothing that makes women feel confident and beautiful is the passion behind my boutique. Our bodies change along with our lifestyles, but we want to be stylish and comfortable. Yes, even if it is just to drop the kids off at school. I’m 40+ years old and don’t have the body I had when I was 20 and at times I struggle with that and know that I’m not alone. As women we are hard on ourselves. We’re all created differently and are all beautiful in our own way and I want my boutique to highlight that. “She is clothed in strength and dignity, and laughs at fear of the future.” Proverbs 31:25 - this is my favorite verse!

I often get asked what is my personal style, as I have gotten older it is “cozy cute” I want to be comfortable, but look stylish. Being stylish, comfortable and put together is priceless. I love being able to personally hand pick for you ladies a collection of brands and items from all over the country. Being able to connect with other makers that create unique items is one of my favorite things. I love being able to support their dreams and introduce you ladies to all my favorite items.

How did the 2020 pandemic change things for your business and family?

For our family like many others, we were working from home, doing online school it was a year of ups and downs. We were able to slow down, spend time as a family, re-think and shift our priorities. We spent a lot of time in prayer and fasting about what changes we needed to make as we prepared for the "new normal." We began to re-think a lot of the ways we were doing life and running our business as we went 100% online. It was hard not seeing clients in person or doing events, so I got creative and got out of my comfort zone. Instead of being behind the brand, I got more in front of the brand, doing live videos, try on sessions and everyday photos of me, I think it really grew our business because I was real and authentic. Maybe at times too much, because it leaves me vulnerable, but I wear my heart on my sleeve and always will. I believe if you stay true to who you are and what you believe things will workout in the end.

In the middle of the pandemic a flood hit our hometown. It was devastating seeing our families homes and small business affected and many destroyed by the flood.  My husband and myself are from this small town of Midland and Sanford we are the 4th generation of our family. We decided to go back for a month after spending the year fasting, and praying about how we could help our families, the community and what was next for our family in 2021. We decided after 17 years in California to move closer to our family and see what God had for our family here. We bought property on Sanford Lake. The property has been in the family for 60 years, it was where my husbands mom grew up and we are going to build a house on. It is a huge transition for our family, but we are excited to see how God will use each of us as he plants us in this new city and season here!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?

Entrepreneurship is in my genes. My family growing up owned their own furniture store, The Grainery here in Midland, Mi and was passed down to her. It was because of my mom’s dream to own a small business, that I saw first hand how if you were willing to put in the hard work and take the time to make each customer feel special you could impact your community one person at a time. Growing up in a small town everyone knows everyone!! If we didn’t carry what a customer wanted you would reach out to another business for the customer. There wasn’t that highly competitiveness you have these days or in a bigger city. This truly has been my biggest struggle with starting my own boutique. I firmly believe we are better together in community. I absolutely LOVE partnering and journeying along side other small business or boss babes. I don’t feel we are competitors, I believe that we each bring different styles and gifts to our boutiques that makes each store unique and special in its own way.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about SoCal Threads Boutique – what should we know?

We specialize in women clothing, accessories and limited edition gifts. We have a specially handpicked curated collection of brands we love such as Z Supply, Lovestich, and Just Black Denim to name a few. We are always looking for new and unique items to add to our boutique. We carry many accessories such as jewelry, hair, totes, hats, belts, and baby items. We recently added a teen collection my daughter has been helping me with that’s been so fun to do with her!

In addition to being an online boutique I love having local shoppers come and shop, in person, in our studio or during our pop-up events around our community. I love getting to know our clients personally. Nothing makes me happier than getting messages from customers to personally help them choose items, or gift boxes. I love you feeling like you have your own personal stylist.

I also take pride in our “models” being women from the community and love having them as the women behind the brand. Real everyday women. We love featuring you so tag us @socalthreadboutique or #SCTSISTERSTYLE or DM on our socials.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?

I couldn't do this business without the support of my husband and three kids along with all the love and support of our SCT Sister Community. We now serve over 32 states around the United States! We feel so blessed to be on this journey with so many women supporting and coming alongside us on this adventure.

Did you know?!?! Small business owners do a happy dance with every like, comment, share, tag and order, it’s about the little things.

Please reach out with any questions on sizing, styling or our limited edition gift items. I love hearing from you! I am your personal stylist, so please use this free service. 😘

Thank you, for shopping with us and sharing SoCal Threads with your friends!!

XO Mindy
